Our hands-on review of Recraft

Recraft works particularly well when the goal is to create something that needs to become a usable design asset rather than simply an attractive AI image.

For example, you can generate a logo concept, produce an editable SVG, adjust its paths and colors in the vector editor, and then place the finished design into a product mockup. Recraft's vector editor allows users to modify anchor points, curves, colors, and individual vector elements directly within the platform.

The same workflow can be used for advertising graphics. Generate the visual, remove or replace the background, adjust the design, upscale it, and place it on a realistic product or marketing mockup.

Its text rendering is also useful for posters, menus, packaging, book covers, advertisements, and other designs where readable typography is important. Recraft V4 is specifically positioned around detailed typography and structured compositions.

For professional client work, however, the plan matters because Free-plan images do not carry the same commercial rights as paid-plan generations.

How Recraft actually works

Open Recraft Studio and create a project.

Describe the image, illustration, logo, vector, or design you want using a natural-language prompt.

Choose a Recraft model or another available model and generate multiple variations. You can then edit the result, remove the background, upscale it, vectorize it, or place it into a mockup.

For vector projects, Recraft can generate editable SVG files that can be modified directly in its vector editor or exported to other professional design applications.

Pricing: is it worth the money?

Recraft currently offers a Free plan with up to 30 free image generations per day. Free-plan generations are intended for non-commercial use and are publicly visible in the community gallery.

Paid plans provide higher credit limits, private generations, and commercial rights. Recraft's pricing page supports monthly and annual billing, with annual billing advertised as saving 20%. Exact credit allowances and plan pricing can vary by the pricing configuration currently shown to the account.

Subscription credits reset at the beginning of each billing cycle and unused subscription credits do not roll over. Recraft also offers top-up credits on eligible plans; these purchased credits do not expire.

API usage is separate from subscription credits and is billed using API Units based on the operation and output type.
